Titanium Cooler
GDM recently designed and supplied one of its customers with an air blown water cooler made from titanium.
The Brief
The client was supplying an electronics cabinet fitted on an oil rig out in the Norwegian oil fields. They required an air blown cooler to recirculate cold air around the sealed cabinet by pumping sea water through the cooler. Because of the harsh environment the standard copper tube coolers were not acceptable and the client wanted to ensure longevity of the cooler because of the associated problems of replacing parts on oil rigs.
The Solution
GDM proposed making the cooler with titanium tubes. With the cold sea water being pumped through the titanium tubes, the anti static fan and Eexd motor purpose was to re-circulate the air around the cabinet. This was to ensure that the electronic panels didn’t overheat. For extra protection against this harsh environment, the cowling, frames and panels were all made from 316 stainless steel.
“GDM met all our requirements in terms of delivery promises, quality and price”.
